How we build the posting sample

Every month, for every tracked metro, we pull caregiver job ads posted in the last 30 days, matching the searches a real applicant would run: caregiver, home care aide, HHA, PCA home care, and CNA home care. Then we clean the pile:

  • Duplicates go first. The same ad syndicated across job boards counts once.
  • Only home care agencies stay. Hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, staffing registries, and consumer posts (families hiring directly) are removed — our classifier reads the full ad text, not just the employer name, so a facility's CNA ad never skews what home care agencies are offering.
  • Every remaining ad counts toward the ad total (the hiring-demand signal) and the benefit percentages.
  • Pay numbers use fewer ads on purpose. Advertised-pay stats can only come from ads that actually state a wage — roughly two thirds do, and we always show both counts ("from the 7 of 19 ads that disclosed pay").

Small markets get a "small sample" flag below 25 pay-disclosing ads, and we don't publish pay ranges at all below that bar — a shaky percentile would undermine every honest number around it. Posted wages are what agencies advertise to attract applicants — a fast-moving signal that runs ahead of the official surveys, not a substitute for them. Both live side by side on Caregiver Pay & Rates.
